Three friends—Margaret, Bitty, and Sissy—decide to tempt fate. They make wishes that truly begin to come true. But not at all in the way they would like.

Larkin returns to the uninhabited, half-destroyed house after the fire, where she once lived with her mother Ivy and Sissy, who raised them both. Trying to understand what caused the fire in the house, Larkin delves into the mysteries of a distant past, and this makes her rethink her own life and her relationships with loved ones.
