Zoo at the Edge of the World

A stunning combination of magical realism in the spirit of «Life of Pi» by Yann Martel and a historical adventure novel. The Qing Empire is in decline. The powerful empress has passed away, and the fate of her zoo is in question: the animals will either be sold or die of hunger. Preacher Morgan Carroway is looking for something unusual to attract the attention of the provincial residents, who no longer trust missionaries. Therefore, he buys an elephant, a lion, two zebras, five baboons, a parrot, and a python from the imperial zoo - and embarks on an epic journey to the Chifeng region, full of bandits, shamans, and werewolves. A charming story, filled with many astonishing everyday details, about how true love and faith often manifest in the most unexpected things and actions.
