Steppe: A Novel

Ten years after her parents' divorce, the daughter meets her long-haul trucker father and travels with him through central Russia and southern regions. "Steppe" is a new novel by Oksana Vasyakina, forming a duology together with her debut "Wound": the first book is about the daughter's farewell to her deceased mother; the second is about her relationship with her father. As she recalls the thoughts from the truck cabin racing through the steppe, the heroine reflects on men whose youth was in the 1980s and 1990s; on the diseases from which many of them die in silence; on how time has exhausted her father, leaving him in the cold wind of the future; on Russia, which does not know what to do with its own history. Oksana Vasyakina is a writer and a laureate of the "Lyceum" prize (2019) and the "NOS" prize (2021).
