Steppe: A Novel

Ten years after her parents' divorce, a daughter reunites with her long-haul truck driver father and travels with him through central Russia and the southern regions. "Steppe" is the new novel by Oksana Vasyakina, forming a duology with her debut... "Wound": the first book is about the daughter's farewell to her deceased mother; the second is about her relationship with her father. Reflecting on her thoughts in the truck cab speeding through the steppe, the heroine contemplates men whose youth was during the 1980s and 1990s; the illnesses from which many of them die in silence; how time has exhausted her father, leaving him on the cold wind of the future; and about Russia, which does not know what to do with its own history. Oksana Vasyakina is a writer and winner of the "Lyceum" award (2019) and the "NOS" award (2021).
