The adventure novel «The Island of the Dead Ships» was completed by Alexander Romanovich Belyayev by 1926 and published in parts in the magazine «World Pathfinder». A separate edition of the novel was released in 1927. This work rightfully became... a classic of Soviet science fiction. The exotic setting - the distant and mysterious Sargasso Sea in the Atlantic, the wrecks of ancient ships, a German submarine, incredible adventures of colorful characters from the capitalist world, including a detective, a criminal, and a billionaire's daughter - all this made a strong impression on the not overly spoiled by quality fiction Soviet reader in the first third of the 20th century. Nowadays, «The Island of the Dead Ships» is read with no less interest. It is no coincidence that in the last quarter of the 20th century, a musical and a dystopian film were created based on this novel. This collection also includes other works by the author, thanks to which Belyayev has rightly come to be regarded as one of the founders of Soviet science fiction. Among them is the famous novel «The Amphibian Man», the story «The Head of Professor Dowell», and many other works known far beyond the borders of Russia.
