For the past two quite turbulent centuries in military terms, the name Clausewitz has long since moved into the realm of names that are hardly anything but common nouns, and this probably best summarizes the results of his scholarly work.... The works of Clausewitz represent one of the almost unique attempts to create a dry military-historical, rational overview, devoid of political mythology as much as possible, based on relevant material steeped in personal experience. On War undoubtedly represents a brilliant exercise in the analysis of current events, almost devoid of the magic of names and slogans, written without the typical errors and biases of an eyewitness.
