The Philosophy of Name. Thing and Name

«What is in a name of mine?», «a rose smells of a rose, whether you call it a rose or not» - the problem of the connection between a thing or living being and their names has troubled humanity for... millennia. Does it exist? And if so, what is its essence? In the classic work «Philosophy of Name», first published in 1927, the great Russian philosopher addresses the community and opposition between the materiality, concreteness, and idea - that is, meaning and essence. Like the beginnings of yin and yang, everything that exists combines fact and symbol - expression. And if the phoneme of the name belongs to the category of materiality, then its inner content is a meaning that is, in the philosopher's words, turned into the «other».
