From Underground to Mainstream

In the early 2000s, St. Petersburg suddenly became the center of the Russian underground and independent rock music, attracting artists from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok. The most unimaginable bands and projects were formed. Nobody divided music into styles, but the guitar... sound and bold punk sound even penetrated rap, electronic music, and, dare I say, chanson. St. Petersburg clubs operated around the clock, each evening presenting something new to the audience. A noticeable player in this crazy chain of events became the music label «Kap-Kan Records», which transformed the prevailing chaos into a profitable industry: hundreds of albums were released over a decade, and underground heroes transitioned into the status of show business stars.
