Pierre and Jean

In the seaside city of Havre lives a respectable family of the old man Roland, a rentier and an enthusiastic fisherman. Roland and his wife have two adult sons — Pierre and Jean, who are remarkably different from each other.... The elder, Pierre, is a brunette, hot-headed and sensitive. The younger, Jean, is a blonde with an even and calm character. Some might say: well, this happens with brothers. However, an unexpected inheritance that fell upon Jean gives rise to suspicions that the difference between the brothers is not just a coincidence. Why did an old family friend leave all his considerable fortune to Jean, completely forgetting about Pierre?
This novel by the classic of French literature Guy de Maupassant (1850–1893) reveals the theme of old family secrets, ghosts of the past that can destroy someone's future.
