Vasily Terkin

In the history of Russian literature, few works can compare to «Vasily Terkin» in terms of popularity and the truly nationwide love that has befallen the famous poem by Alexander Tvardovsky, an outstanding Soviet poet and writer, the chief editor of the legendary magazine «Novy Mir», which became a voice of freedom during the times of «the thaw». The main part of the poem was created during the years of the Great Patriotic War and was published in the form of separate chapters, which had a resounding success with readers; the continuation of the book about the brave and unyielding fighter was eagerly awaited by the «people living in the war». «„Vasily Terkin“ — is the best of all that has been written about the war in the war», is how Konstantin Simonov described the poem.
