Sheena debuted in the distant year of 1938 and became the first female superhero in comics, beating Wonder Woman by three years! She opposes anyone who dares to threaten the fragile world in the African jungle, and she is aided... by a hunter named Bob. Sheena's early adventures were published under the pseudonym V. Morgan Thomas, which was a front for Will Eisner and S. M. (Jerry) Iger! A successful TV series starring Irish McCalla added to the heroine's popularity, while subsequent hyped adaptations cemented it. Sheena became the prototype for many "jungle girl" characters, including Shanna the She-Devil from Marvel.
