The Catchers of Black Souls. The Case of the Werebear

A quiet little village on the outskirts of a poor remote province is shaken by a series of brutal murders. Innocent children who stray into the forest become victims of an enraged beast. Broken trees, paw and claw marks, and bodies torn beyond recognition point to a rabid man-eating bear. But is that really the case?
Investigators from St. Petersburg's special department for combating maniacs, led by Roman Muromtsev, take on the case. The team finds clues pointing to the guilt of a cold-blooded murderer, rather than a rampaging animal. The provincial authorities remain inactive and stubbornly turn a blind eye to the evidence. Local residents blame the atrocities on a creature known as the berolak – part man, part bear.
Fearless investigators embark on a methodical hunt for the "werebear" to prevent new victims from appearing. In the process, they uncover an unappealing truth: the most dangerous and ruthless predator is man.
