English physician and writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is known worldwide as the unparalleled master of the detective genre, the author of many works about the brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes and his loyal friend Dr. Watson. The classic translations of these stories and novels, made long ago by various translators, suffer from well-known shortcomings: discrepancies, omissions, and blatant errors.
