Gerald Durrell (1925–1995) — a famous English zoologist and traveler, one of the iconic figures of the 20th century. Durrell's books have long been part of the golden fund of world literature and are very popular among readers worldwide.

1950s, Durrell equipped expeditions to various corners of the world one after another. "The Hounds of Bafut" is the story of the second journey of the renowned animal collector to West Africa. The main difficulty of this trip, oddly enough, was not the search for wild animals in places untouched by civilization, but the close interaction with the capricious ruler of Cameroon — Fon Bafut, a lover of daily entertainment, who saw in Durrell a companion. And yet, the hardest and saddest part of every such journey, according to the zoologist, was its conclusion. After several months spent side by side with the caught animals, one had to part ways with them. Realizing this, Durrell understood that the problem could only be solved in one way — to take and open his own zoo. The author describes how one of the most famous nurseries to date was created in the story "The Zoo in My Luggage".
The edition contains illustrations by the famous British artist Ralph Thompson.
