Elena Khokhlova — a candidate of art history and associate professor at the School of Asian Studies of the National Research University "Higher School of Economics" — specializes in the history of Korean art. In her book, she systematically and meticulously examines this fabric of a foreign culture, woven from persistent symbols, unique themes, and techniques, pulling apart its individual threads, explaining what they mean and how they are related to each other. Concise yet with a keen attention to detail, the author introduces the reader to the rich history of art on the Korean Peninsula — including through the analysis of specific works — starting from the Neolithic period and continuing to the present day.
