Mrs. Dalloway

Clarissa Dalloway, a fifty-something socialite, is preparing for a party she is hosting at her home. In the morning, she goes out to buy flowers, which she loves very much, and it is essential to decorate her house with them... by evening. As she walks through London, she recalls her youth, her first love. In another part of London, Septimus Warren Smith, a veteran of World War I suffering from shell shock, is going with his wife Lucrezia to a psychiatrist appointment. Smith's day intertwines with Clarissa's and her friends' day, their lives converge when the party reaches its peak. Upon learning about the tragedy involving Smith, Clarissa reconsiders her life and her attitude towards death.

A masterful novel by Virginia Woolf, in which past, present, and future merge into one significant day in June 1923.
