Quentin Durward

Quentin Durward — a young Scottish nobleman — meets a certain townsman near the castle. Certain circumstances lead Quentin to the castle, and how surprised he was to recognize in Louis XV his recent acquaintance. He finds himself in the service of the king's personal guard and at the center of intrigue, not only political but also romantic.
The novel was first published in 1823, it is a classic novel with a classical structure and heroes, it is a world of ideal love, hatred, honor, and hopelessness. It was esteemed by such classics of world literature as O. de Balzac, A.S. Pushkin, M. Twain, and Leo Tolstoy.
