"Pirogov" — this is one of many of his works about people who dedicated themselves to medicine. The trilogy, created between 1958 and 1964 ("The Case You Serve", "My Dear Man", "I Am Responsible for Everything"), tells the story of Vladimir Ustimenko. Deciding to become a doctor, the young man distances himself from everything that might hinder him, for he believes that "the greatest enemy of science, progress, civilization, and simply the medical profession — is lethargy." He never allows himself apathy and indifference, and his uncompromising nature often causes suffering for those close to him, loved and loving ones. It is a difficult path, but for Ustimenko, it is the only possible one… The collection includes the final novel of the trilogy "I Am Responsible for Everything", as well as the documentary "A Tale about Doctor Nikolai Evgenievich"; it tells about N. E. Slupsky, who served as the prototype for Doctor Bogoslavsky from the trilogy.
