The Evolution of Graphic Styles

The book is dedicated to the history and evolution of graphic design — from the emergence of commercial art as a result of the industrial and business revolution of the 19th century to the present day. The publication examines both major graphic styles that have left a significant mark in the history of design, including the characteristics of their dissemination, individual development, and practical application in different countries, as well as unique phenomena in graphics that existed in isolation (for example, Polish posters).
The authors draw the reader's attention to the formal and visual characteristics of the relevant design periods, with the main focus of their study being the works themselves rather than their creators.
The second edition includes a new chapter — "Hipster Style." In it, the authors analyze the graphic design of the 2010s, which, in their opinion, is characterized not so much by style but by a special free worldview shaped by the technological achievements of the era.
