Intrigue and Love

This collection includes plays that constitute the foundation of Schiller's creative heritage: "Intrigue and Love", "The Robbers", "Mary Stuart" and "William Tell". In addition to their countless literary merits, they are interesting in that, written during the period of the widespread triumph of classicism, they are precursors to the legendary German romanticism.
Vivid and multifaceted characters, devoid of classicist unambiguity, tumultuous passions, dangerous and dramatic adventures of the characters, extreme sharpness of conflicts — it is hard to imagine how innovative Schiller's plays appeared in his era.
