Rome and Hellenism

Rome, over the centuries advancing towards the peak of its glory, traditionally combined in foreign policy advanced military art with cunning diplomatic maneuvers. When coming to the aid of a weak state, the Roman power skillfully concealed its aggressive plans for a time. Rome acted this way in the West, and pursued the same policy in the East. After the end of the Second Punic War, in a relatively short historical period, the Romans found allies among the Hellenistic states, created military-political coalitions, and skillfully exploited turmoil and disagreements within the Greek world. Gradually capturing one country after another, Rome expanded its dominance over the Eastern Mediterranean and Asia Minor.
The book is dedicated to the history of political, economic, and cultural ties of Republican Rome with the states of the Eastern Mediterranean. The author examines the complex issues of Roman military expansion, trade, and diplomacy, as well as the development of the fundamental principles of Rome's world policy.
