The Dark Flower

This novel by the classic of English literature John Galsworthy (1867—1933) consists of three stories. All of them are about passion and are thematically united by the main character named Mark Lennan, who at different stages of his life finds... himself under the sway of a "dark feeling".
In the first story, he is a student, tired of studies and passionately in love with his teacher's wife. Then the same hero, having established himself in his profession and received an education in the fine arts, becomes infatuated with a young married woman. In the third story, Mark, a forty-five-year-old sculptor, feels attraction to a young girl.
In each of the stories, the almost complete absence of external events is contrasted with the flow of intense internal experiences of the main character, in whose heart the "dark flower" blossoms.
