The World as Will and Representation

Arthur Schopenhauer — an outstanding German irrationalist philosopher. He was fascinated by mysticism, highly valued the works of Immanuel Kant, and criticized Hegel, his contemporary. In 1819, Schopenhauer published his main work «The World as Will and Representation», in which he sought to establish a new and comprehensive teaching, in opposition to the rationalism of the Modern era. In Schopenhauer's philosophy, the driving force of all phenomena in the Universe — the unconscious world will, which manifests itself in everything and is alien to everything.
