Jerome K. Jerome (1859-1927) — an English novelist and playwright. Born in Walsall, Staffordshire. His father was not successful in business, and the boy began to fend for himself at the age of 14, working as a clerk, a school... teacher, and an actor before becoming a writer and editor. Jerome's greatest achievement as a novelist is the publications of 1889, «Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow» and «Three Men in a Boat, to Say Nothing of the Dog»; his highest achievement in drama is the play «The Occupant of the Fourth Floor», where realism combines with mysticism.
