In the mid-1920s, Agatha Christie's relationship with her first husband, Colonel Archibald Christie, began to deteriorate. He was only interested in golf, communicating only with his playing partners, and as a married woman, she was not supposed to be anywhere... without her husband. Agatha had no one to talk to, but her writing work distracted her from sad thoughts. Instead of boring Archie with her emotional and intellectual musings, she immersed herself in playing with her characters. She could not be sure that her husband would give her the attention she deserved, but she knew that she could evoke attention, interest, and feelings in her readers. And she did so by writing her brilliant novel "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd" at the beginning of 1926. The book presented to the readers contains the unadapted text of the novel, supplemented with comments and a dictionary.
