A Stranger's Wife and a Husband Under the Bed

The works of F. M. Dostoevsky collected in this anthology («A Novel in Nine Letters», «A Stranger's Wife and a Husband Under the Bed», «Auntie's Dream», «A Wretched Anecdote», «Crocodile») are less known to the general public and usually remain... outside the view of researchers attempting to summarize the main features of the writer's poetics and artistic philosophy. They were created by Dostoevsky at the beginning of his literary career, and it is quite difficult to guess the author of the future «great five-volume work» in them (unlike, for example, the novel «Poor Folk», the stories «The Double», «White Nights», etc.). We see the «cheerful» Dostoevsky here, revealing a satirical talent that would later only shine through in flashes in his famous novels.
