Children of Lieutenant Schmidt's Bridge

The sixth book of stories by Eduard Kochergin - the chief artist of the G. A. Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theater - develops the main themes of his work, outlined in the first, famous collection - "Angel's Doll".
"Children of Lieutenant Schmidt's Bridge" consists of stories about the everyday life of students at the Secondary Art School (SAS) of the I.E. Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Leningrad, many of whom became remarkable masters of painting, graphics, sculpture, architecture, and art history. The author of the book studied at this legendary "drawing monastery" at the Academy of Fine Arts in the 1950s. During those difficult post-war years, the SAS preserved the best traditions of classical drawing and a high level of humanitarian education.
Memorable stories from the lives of SAS students, partially published in other collections by Kochergin, are gathered together and significantly supplemented in this book, as well as accompanied by a unique illustrative appendix. All photographs in the book are published for the first time.
