Ave Roma. Roman Sonnets

The book presents the cycle «Ave Roma. Roman Sonnets» (1924) by the poet and thinker Vyacheslav Ivanov (1866–1949), one of the main ideological inspirers of the Silver Age. The «Roman Sonnets» are among the most significant Russian poetic texts dedicated... to the Eternal City. The poet-philosopher creates vivid images of the land, sea, history, and monuments of art in their spiritual significance in completed classical forms. The Russian text of the sonnets is accompanied by a poetic translation into Italian. The articles and notes included in the book belong to A. B. Shishkin, a well-known researcher of the work of Vyacheslav Ivanov. The cycle of illustrations for the sonnets by St. Petersburg artist Yulia Bogatova is published for the first time.
