The Elder Edda

“The Elder Edda” is a collection of ancient Icelandic poems about gods and heroes, preserved in a manuscript from the 13th century. It is thanks to the verses of the “Edda” that images of Norse mythology have entered global culture... and continue to exist within it today. Familiarity with the original source will help to understand the nature of this immortal charm, to see with one's own eyes the feasts in Valhalla, the demise of the gods, the flights of the Valkyries, and the victory over the dragon.
The book is complemented by illustrations from old editions of the “Edda” and classical commentaries by M. I. Steblin-Kamensky, which make the ancient text even closer and more understandable to the modern reader.
