The works included in this book can now be found in bookstores, but this was not always the case: in the Soviet Union, they were banned for many years. M.A. Bulgakov wrote "Dog Heart" in 1925, and the novella was... considered a political satire on the revolution and the proletariat; it was immediately declared anti-Soviet and was not published until perestroika. George Orwell was banned in the USSR as an "anti-Sovietist": the satirical fable-novella by the British writer sharply exposed all the vices and shortcomings of dictatorship. The first publication of "Animal Farm," written in 1945, took place only in 1988.
