Arthur Schopenhauer is an outstanding German philosopher-irrationalist, a vivid representative of post-classical philosophy of the 19th century. A thinker whose doctrine is often called pessimistic philosophy believed that human life is meaningless and the existing world is the worst of all possible worlds. According to Schopenhauer, the world is an arena strewn with embers, through which a person must pass. The driving force of everything is the will to live, which generates desires. But even if desires are satisfied, a person cannot experience happiness; instead, they are met with satiety and boredom, followed by new desires and suffering.
