Man for Himself. The Forgotten Language

Erich Fromm 1900–1980 – the greatest thinker of the 20th century, one of the great cohort of philosophers from psychology and the spiritual leader of the Frankfurt School of Sociology. In the work Man for Himself, Erich Fromm examines the purpose of man in the modern world, which has freed him from hard physical labor. By developing material culture and accumulating knowledge, we have not been able to answer the main question of existence: what is man, how should he live, and where can he direct the enormous energy that is contained within himself? In another work of the collection, The Forgotten Language, the author presents his own, entirely original theory of dreams and a methodology for their interpretation. According to his theory, dreams represent a kind of ancestral memory, a universal language of symbols that has been preserved in our memory since ancient times, a language common to all cultures and peoples throughout the entire history of humanity, which, if studied, can help us understand ourselves and each other more deeply.
