People of different ages, genders, and social backgrounds go to the pool. On the lanes of the pool, they... find a sense of community, comfort, and meaning. However, when a crack appears at the bottom, everything changes. Without her daily meditative routine, Alice gradually loses touch with reality. Like water draining from the pool, her memory slips away into nothingness, and Alice's daughter feels her mother, who is inevitably slipping away from her, actually becoming closer, as the long-standing crack between them disappears. Written in a mesmerizing elegiac manner, the novel prepares one to accept the natural course of things and affirms that everything happening in the world is reasonable, and there is a poignant and transformative beauty in everything.
