Point and Line on Plane

«Color is the key; the eye is the hammer; the soul is a multi-stringed piano. An artist is the hand which, by means of that or another key, effectively brings the human soul into vibration», wrote Wassily Kandinsky in his... programmatic philosophical work «On the Spiritual in Art», published in 1910. A graduate of the Faculty of Law of Moscow University, he decided to become an artist in the last decade of the 19th century. During this time of radical experiments and the birth of art in the new century, Wassily Kandinsky was destined to gain worldwide fame as an outstanding theorist and practitioner of avant-garde painting. «On the Spiritual in Art», «The Artist's Text. Stages», «Point and Line on Plane» - these works, in which Kandinsky formulates the theoretical prerequisites of his own creativity and abstractionism as a whole, remain one of the most important keys to understanding 20th-century art to this day.
