The autobiographical trilogy of Maxim Gorky was written between 1913 and 1923. Contemporaries almost unanimously recognized it as the best of all that the author had produced, his highest artistic achievement, and by this time Gorky was already a world-renowned... writer, the author of the famous play "At the Bottom," romantic stories about "tramps," and the famous "Song of the Falcon"... In the autobiographical novellas, the writer's talent as a "great realist" is fully manifested. According to critics, the author seemed to have gained a new astonishing vision, allowing the reader to see vivid figures of characters, as if painted in oil. And although the world reflected in the eyes of the main character often appears frightening and ugly, the book leaves a sense of light, and through the "leaden abominations," through all that is evil and coarse, a colorful and joyful picture of life emerges, for which the author did not spare bright and rich colors.
