The New Man in the City

«No one noticed how he appeared in the city...» - with these words begins an intriguing story created by the classic of French detective literature Georges Simenon at the height of his talent (in 1949). The novel «The New Man in the City» is a wonderful example of how a clichéd plot in the hands of a master gains the scale and strength of a significant work: in a small, unremarkable town in northern America, a mysterious stranger appears, bringing something ominous, disturbing, and destructive into everyday routine... The novel «The Brothers Rico», also included in this edition, has been adapted into film multiple times, including in Russia. It is the story of three brothers who are in the service of the mafia. When the youngest brother goes on the run, no longer wishing to serve the criminal world, the eldest is tasked with finding the fugitive. However, this assignment is a trap that is meant to lead to tragic consequences.
