The name of George Orwell (1903-1950) was made famous by the dystopia "1984", but he also wrote more traditional psychological prose. The hero of the novel "Take a Breath of Air" (1939) is insurance agent George Bowling, forty-five years old,... an ordinary man. But World War I divided his life into two parts - before and after. His provincial childhood, with its small joys like fishing, is far behind. "Who would I have become had the war not broken out? I do not know, but certainly not as I turned out.
