The Great Canon of Saint Andrew of Crete with Translation into Russian and Explanations to the Text

This book presents the full text of the Great Penitential Canon, read in churches on the first and fifth weeks of Great Lent. The work of the great hymnographer of the 8th century, Saint Andrew of Crete, is difficult to... grasp; it is full of references to Holy Scripture, symbols, and complex turns of phrase. In order for the Great Canon to reach not only the heart but also the mind of modern Orthodox Christians, we have prepared a publication in which the Church Slavonic text is accompanied by dictionary explanations, and the translation made by the Russian spiritual writer N. Kedrov in 1914 is supplemented with meaningful comments (compiled by V. Luchaninov). Approved for distribution by the Publishing Council of the Russian Orthodox Church IS R16-520-0923
