The main character of the novel "Decline and Fall" — a teacher who takes a job at a privileged private school after being disgracefully expelled from Oxford for participating in a wild party. These heroes, so different, are united by a common fatal fate, an inexorable doom, driving them to reckless, sometimes inexplicable actions and decisions.
