Eric was born in a world governed by the Great System, into the family of Arena Bergman, a respected miner from Aarhus. This joyful event for the Bergman family is overshadowed by the news of a terrible affliction affecting the newborn. Eric is completely nullified. Only thanks to the tiny indicators of the sources of «life» and «energy» is he still alive.
The healer who delivered him believes that what happened is the work of the malevolent spirit Baga. Due to the specific laws of the Great System, the «nullified» Eric cannot use the essences of experience and the tablets of characteristics, and thus faces the fate of spending his entire life bedridden. But his father finds a solution – he takes out a large loan from the bank and purchases several Ancient artifacts with no level restrictions on the black market in the capital.
Despite having the artifacts, Eric is still very weak, and everyone around him still considers him a freak, but he can already move on his own, which gives hope to the Bergman family. However, unfortunately, not for long… When Riku turns fourteen, his father and mother die in the mine. The bank takes away his home, and Eric is sent to work off the remaining debt in the Dungeons of the Crooked Mountains.
