Faith

The creator of the wonderful "Enchanting April" Elizabeth von Arnim called "Faith" her best novel. It is a dramatic and partly autobiographical story about how love is deceptive and people are sometimes not who they seem during romantic courtship days. Lucy and Everard have recently lost loved ones: she - her beloved father, he - his wife, Vera. The growing emotional attachment leads the characters to an inevitable marriage. But can marriage be happy if the woman is blinded by love, while the man is a selfish person who listens only to himself? And what happened to Vera, whose death came as a shock to all the inhabitants of the ancestral estate?
The novel was published in 1921, and immediately readers placed it alongside "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Brontë.
