"My Passion for Dickens: Family Chronicle of the XX Century" is a wonderful memoir about how reading classics, the culture of honor and kindness nurtured by them helped a little girl endure the trials of the Stalinist repression era.
Screenwriter and... editor Nelly Morozova was born in 1924 into an intelligent family of journalist Alexander Morrison and sculptor Vera Morozova. Nelly's parents, initially supportive of the ideals of the revolution, believed in building a common happy future, but in 1936, Alexander Morrison was arrested, and Nelly transformed from a young pioneer into the daughter of an enemy of the people.
During this terrifying time, surprisingly, Dickens' books and his characters: Esther and Pip, Mr. Pickwick and Joe became a true salvation for Nelly. However, the main figures in Nelly’s memories are by no means they, but her relatives and close ones, who managed to maintain humanity and dignity even in the most difficult days of the Great Terror.
The publication includes the author's memories of E.S. Ginzburg, as well as a photo postscript by Nelly Morozova's son - L.V. Bakhnov.
