Nero Wolfe, a passionate orchid collector, great gourmet, beer lover, and brilliant detective, rarely leaves his home. He solves all crimes based on the facts collected by Archie Goodwin, his charming, ironic assistant with a remarkable memory. Wolfe is approached by Paul Whipple, an African American who helped the detective years ago in the investigation of a crime, asking him to find out why his son wants to marry a wealthy white girl. Goodwin, feeling skeptical, tries to dissuade his boss, but Wolfe, filled with enthusiasm, decides otherwise and takes on an unsolved murder case from two months ago, involving FBI agents; however, Wolfe's real task is not to solve the murder, but to fight back against the overreaching FBI… Orri Catner, one of Wolfe's assistants, is suspected by the police of the murder of a young woman. However, Nero Wolfe, Archie Goodwin, and their loyal assistants Sol Penzer and Fred Durkin are convinced of Orri's innocence. To prove this, the detectives must find the real killer…
