Random Tourist

"Random Tourist" is one of the most famous novels by Anne Tyler. And it is once again a family story - about the fragility of relationships and life in general, about the attempts to find oneself without breaking out of one's own shell. Macon Leary writes travel guides, but he hates traveling with all his soul. His guides are collections of information on how to feel at home during yet another forced and unbearable trip, minimizing the intrusion of the alien and unpleasant world into your life. Macon and his wife have suffered a terrible tragedy - the senseless death of their teenage son. Since then, they seem to have lost their way in this life, and their marriage is rapidly falling apart. From now on, everyone will go their own way - random tourists wandering wherever their eyes go in the hope of meeting a fellow traveler one day. A sad and very funny novel by an American classic about how the terrible and the comical walk hand in hand, how habits try to muffle life, how horror lies hidden in the mundane, and how hope dwells in the unknown.
The novel was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.
The book has been successfully adapted into a film, which received an award from the New York Critics Circle, and actress Geena Davis won an "Oscar".
