This story has been adapted for the screen several times. The events of the novel "In the Land of Woods" (1887) also unfold against the backdrop of the quiet Victorian countryside. Fate promises Grace Melbury a bright future. She is educated, attractive, and could make a worthy man happy. At least, that’s what her father believes, willing to do much for his daughter...
