Irina Odoevtseva is primarily known as a poetess and the author of the memoirs "On the Banks of the Neva" and "On the Banks of the Seine". In 1922, she left Russia and returned only in 1987. In exile, Irina Odoevtseva continued to write poetry, but also turned to prose and gained recognition as an author of novels and stories. Odoevtseva's prose, which became a significant phenomenon beyond Russia, remained unknown to Russian readers for a long time.
