Irina Odoevtseva is primarily known as a poetess and the author of the memoirs "On the Banks of the Neva" and "On the Banks of the Seine". In 1922, she left Russia and returned only in 1987. She, the last... representative of the distant Silver Age, was able to see her books published in the USSR. The return was triumphant — as if in reward for all the hardships of emigration. In exile, Irina Odoevtseva continued to write poetry, but also turned to prose and gained recognition as an author of novels and stories. Odoevtseva's prose, which became a significant phenomenon beyond Russia, remained unknown to Russian readers for a long time. Each novel or story is interesting in its own way, and in each of them, one can feel the writer's belonging to a new cultural reality — the Russian Paris, longing for irrevocably lost times and hopefully looking towards the future.
