The Game of Fifteen. Golden Spiders

Nero Wolfe, an avid orchid collector, great gourmet, beer lover, and a great detective, almost never leaves his house. He unravels all crimes based on the facts gathered by Archie Goodwin, his charming, ironic assistant with an excellent memory. One evening, a mysterious girl appears at Wolfe's door and declares that she intends to live in his house for a while. Wolfe kicks the unwelcome guest out onto the street, and the next morning he learns that the girl has been murdered. And since he believes that without a client there is no case, Archie takes on the investigation, but ends up behind bars. Wolfe is then forced to name Goodwin as his client in order to get him out of jail and find the murderer... A neighborhood boy, Pete, tells Wolfe about a woman in a 'Cadillac', with a scratch on her cheek and golden spider-shaped earrings, who asked Pete to call the police because a man in the passenger seat threatened her with a gun. The next day, Pete is hit by a car. Before dying, he manages to ask his mother to give the detective all the contents of his piggy bank - four dollars and thirty cents - as a fee. Wolfe is forced to begin searching for the murderer…
