In 1932, the English writer John Galsworthy was awarded the Nobel Prize "for the high art of narration, the pinnacle of which is the 'Forsyte Saga.'" This famous cycle is part of the extensive "Chronicles of the Forsytes," recreating several decades of history of one family and unveiling a world hidden behind the beautiful facade of success: a world of hidden passions, broken fates, unfulfilled happiness, hopeless love, and tragic loneliness. This edition presents the trilogy "The End of the Chapter," the last part of the "Chronicles," three novels about distant relatives of the Forsytes, impoverished heirs of the once influential noble family of Cherrel, who are adherents of the traditional lifestyle of old England. The book also includes works from the "Chronicles of the Forsytes" created in small form: for the first time in Russian, the full edition of the author's collection of stories "At the Forsyte Exchange," which gathers tales from the lives of Forsytes of different generations, and the novella "The Rescue of the Forsyte," presented in a new translation, the first work from the "Chronicles," which gave birth to the famous saga.
