About the author Olga Nikolayevna Solodovnikova graduated from the Faculty of History of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov in 1997, specializing in the history of art with a focus on Japanese medieval decorative applied painting, particularly on the... paintings of screens, fans, and scrolls based on the plot of the world-famous novel The Tale of Genji from the Heian era 794-1185 - a work truly unparalleled in world literature. In 2000, she received a second higher education with honors in the specialty of regional studies. She is a translator of Japanese at the Department of Japanese Philology of the Institute of Asian and African Studies of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov. After graduating from university, she worked as a curator of the Eastern graphics collection in the Department of Prints and Drawings of the State Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. Today, the name of the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai is probably known throughout the world. Hokusai is one of the leading masters of color woodblock printing of the Edo period Tokugawa 1603–1868 and one of the most famous artists from Japan. He is well known in Europe, Russia, and his works are widely written about, researched, and studied; exhibitions of his works are regularly held in different countries, and documentary films are made about his creativity. Hokusai was one of those masters who initiated the discovery of Japanese art as an independent artistic world, one of the first to become known in the West. Hokusai's legacy is immense. He lived a long life, almost 90 years, and during this time created a vast number of works. These include easel prints, book illustrations, painted scrolls and screens, and monumental frescoes. Today, there are about thirty thousand of his works. Each new researcher and new era uncover previously unknown, different facets of creativity in his art that resonate with their time.
