Here I Am

Foer's latest artistic novel has been awaited for more than ten years. «Here I Am» — a large-scale epic narrative, a book clearly vying for the title of the great American novel. The Russian reader will surely recall the well-known quote from «Anna Karenina»: «Every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.» For the heroes of the novel «Here I Am», Jacob and Julia, who have spent half their lives in marriage and raised three sons, disharmony is perceived not just as unhappiness — it is the end of the world. The private tragedy is exacerbated by a global one — a powerful earthquake in the Middle East leads to an escalation of military conflict. The connection of times and the connection between people is severed — loneliness is felt with unprecedented sharpness, each person confronts their fears alone.
From now on, the heroes will have to look at their lives anew and see the gap — between the life they desire and the life they live.
