Solon Barnes is a Quaker, a deeply religious man with conservative views inherited from his parents. He has always led an honest life and worked hard, which ultimately brought him wealth. Solon holds a position in the management of a bank and is married to the daughter of a wealthy man, although he married not for convenience, but for love. This couple has five children.
